Hi everyone!

Education is a second career for me. I chose to pursue
education full-time after raising two children in whom
classrooms I volunteered for 11 years.
I strive to be the change in education I want to see.
I have a little experience with Web 2.0 tools. I dabble in
Facebook and Pintrest. I have been
requested to Twitter but haven’t yet.
I do skype regularly however.
I do skype regularly however.
I decided to participate in this workshop to become familiar with technology. My hope is that my knowledge will enable my students to be more creative and engaged with their own learning. I want my classroom to be a true student centered experience.
Personally, I love to create.
I am a graphic/industrial designer by trade.
I love to design new spaces, introduce color and refinish furniture.
I take this experience into the classroom as well.
I believe it is vital for my students to
live in a colorful, inviting environment
while we spend six hours together daily.
Hi Joan. Thanks for the insightful glimpse into who you are! I admire the fact that you are "all-in" to learn new technology. I'm confident you will learn some new tools in this workshop that you can bring back to your colleagues as well as your students. I live in Bloomingdale so I'm quite familiar with Hanover Park. Happy to hear you are in such a positive environment.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Twitter, why are you hesitant to get started?
I see a lack of privacy. I am uncomfortable with all social media. I just don't trust it. However, i am willing to try. My colleague tells me to "stalk" which is listening in but not tweeting. Sometimes i just get too overwhelmed from the page just trying to navigate it. I have reached out to friends who do tweet and they have offered suggestions that i put to use now.
DeleteThanks for the reply. In today's day and age we need to look at our online persona (aka digital tattoos) as a credit score. If you walked into a bank to obtain a mortgage and had no credit score the bank would certainly think twice about giving you a loan. Along the same lines, if you apply for a new job and a Google search on you produces no online identity whatsoever a future employer may wonder (a) what is she hiding or (b) she is behind the times. Food for thought. By beginning to build your online identity YOU control the message and content out there (for the most part). Privacy is a concern, but in today's society it's incredibly easy for anyone to find out anything about you if they really truly tried.
DeleteTwitter can be a powerful tool in your professional life. You can use it for professional uses only which can benefit your students and your teaching while maintaining some of your personal privacy. I'd be happy to sit down with you to go through Twitter if you really wanted to give it a shot!
