I am Anthony L. Boen

Hello everyone! I am Anthony L. Boen and I am so glad to have an opportunity to work alongside all of you. I am not yet a teacher but I hope to one day add teaching credentials and experience to my resume. Instead I am an Academic Technology Coordinator working for Chicagoland based university.

I would say that I have more experience with web 2.0 tools than your average bear. Before becoming an Academic Tech Coordinator I spent about three and a half years working as a web developer both freelance and remotely for a marketing and media company based in the state of Texas. And even before working as a web developer for a living I’ve had much experience working with some simple coding and PC hardware.

From this class I am hoping to gain an understanding of how web 2.0 tools are used as educational technology.

  1. Hi Anthony. Happy to have you with us. I'm sure you have quite a range of web 2.0 tools under your belt. It will be interesting to see if you are exposed to a different set of tools in this workshop since our focus is on types of tools that can be with (and by) students. What age level do you hope to teach someday?

    1. Hi Dr. Zumpano,

It's funny, when I first started web development I was able to sell a simple website for 2 to 5 grand easily. But with the prevalence of web 2.0 tools available now days the average Joe can build his own website and does not need to hire a developer to build it for him. So I guess you can say that web 2.0 had defeated me. But as they say, if you can’t beat it, join it. So now I’ve given up on in-depth web development and am instead focusing on the use of these new(ish) web 2.0 tools in educational settings.

For now I plan on staying in higher Ed. But eventually I might like to teach in a high school. I don’t think that early childhood is really my thing.

    2. Thanks for your reply. And it's just Nicole- no "Dr."!
